Direct Delivery to Customers
In the US, the Importer of Record generally should be a US company or an individual with a social security number. Many US buyers do not want to assume the responsibility of being the Importer of Record. When shipping direct, (FIS terms) where the US Customer is not to be involved in the import process, ATC will act as Importer of Record (aka “consignee”) and will oversee delivery direct from US port to store or warehouse of the buyer. In addition to answering US customs questions, ATC notifies the buyers when delivery is ready and orders are delivered in accordance with the buyer’s receiving procedures. For instance, if a delivery appointment with the buyer’s warehouse is necessary, ATC will make certain that an appointment is set up and that delivery documents are provided to the driver so that the order is accepted on first delivery.
